HOW TO GET TO WAO KAMP

Reaching Wao Kamp
is an exciting journey into the heart of the Ecuadorian Amazon,
starting from the city of Quito and ending deep in the pristine
jungle territory of the Waorani people.

Travel from Quito to El Coca

Step 1:

There are two main ways to reach the city of El Coca (Francisco de Orellana):

By Air:

Take a domestic flight from Quito to El Coca. The flight takes approximately 40 to 50 minutes and offers stunning aerial views of the Amazon basin.

By Land:

Travel by private vehicle or bus from Quito to El Coca, a journey of approximately 6 hours through the scenic landscapes of the Andean foothills and into the Amazon region.

From El Coca to Shiripuno Bridge

Step 2:

From El Coca, continue your journey by car along the Auca Road. This stretch takes around 2 hours and leads to the Shiripuno Bridge, the final point accessible by road.

Canoe Journey to Wao Kamp

Step 3:

At the Shiripuno Bridge, board a motorized canoe for an unforgettable ride down the Shiripuno River. The river journey lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours, depending on water levels and river conditions, and offers the first glimpse into the rich biodiversity of the Amazon.

 Verified Amazing 10 day Ecuador land trip with Alfonzo We had a wonderful 10 day trip exploring Ecuador with our guide, Alfonzo. He was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and fun. We learned about the history and culture of Ecuador and heard personal stories about Alfonzo’s family and life in Ecuador and the Galapagos. We hiked mountains, visited historic sites, hot springs and the Amazon and ate local food (including grubs!). We lucked out and our friends and us (4 people) were the only partipants on our tour so we got extra attention and could help shape our experience more. Also, Alfonzo’s knowledge of the English language is impressive. He even got our jokes and joined in. I would strongly recommend using Adventure Journeys and ask for Alfonzo for your Ecuador land tour.

 Verified Wonderful Quito visit Sol our guide gave us a wonderful taste of Quito and the surrounding area. We visited a biscotti making business, the equator solar museum, a colourful market in an Andean town, another town that sold leather and finally visited a waterfall On a second day we had a walking tour of historic Quito.  Verified Ecuador Is Incredible. Such a great trip! Alfonso was our guide -- he is fantastic. The itinerary gives you a pretty good overview of Ecuador. My favorite days were those we spent in the Amazonian forest near Tena, hiking on Chimborazo, and exploring Cuenca. We were able to stay in a couple of haciendas -- those were wonderful.
