AOWARE PROJECT

Waorani Women Guardians of the Amazon

WHO WE ARE?

AOWARE is an initiative born out of the desire to
protect and preserve the ancient Waorani wisdom.
It aims to promote the social, economic, and cultural well-being of Waorani women.

This is an opportunity for cultural connection.

Our Traditions

Threads of Memory

“Through weaving, we keep our ancestors’ teachings alive so that our culture persists.”

The Waorani Community

Waorani women play a fundamental role as transmitters of traditional knowledge, guardians of their territory, and leaders in sustainable development initiatives.

MISION

To honor and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Waorani people through the hands and hearts of Waorani women. Through their handmade crafts, we share their stories, traditions, and deep connection to the Amazon, while creating opportunities that empower them and sustain their communities.

VISION

We dream of a world where the voices of Waorani women are heard, their culture celebrated, and their traditions passed on with pride. A future where their art inspires respect for indigenous wisdom and helps protect the Amazon for generations to come.

Waorani Traditions

A testimony to the history and culture preserved in the heart of the Amazon.

This legacy lives on through the intimate relationship with their land. Every step connects the artisans with their lineage.

Culture

Chambira weaving is an ancient living tradition.
It presents ancestral knowledge passed down through generations.
The preparation of the fibers and the weaving hold stories, memories, and meaning.

Handcrafted Heritage

Woven products made out of chambira palm, crafted by Waorani women. A testimony to ancient traditions thorugh generations.

Why Support
the Project?

Aoware offers an experience beyond a visit, it’s a call and testimony for culture and preservation. It shares the ancestral voice of Waorani women, which has been echoing through generations. Each piece of art carries the teachings of grandmothers, the memory of their ancestors, and the wisdom of their culture. Their traditions are rooted in their relationship with the forest. By supporting Aoware, you are helping preserve a living culture that is at risk of disappearing. You are standing with indigenous women. You support artisans, storytellers, leaders, and protectors of their land and heritage. This project is a sustainable initiative that promotes cultural pride and community well-being.

Your support helps ensure that future generations will continue to weave, speak, and live the traditions of the Waorani people.
