Night walks are one of our signature experiences. While walks during the day welcome you with a loud symphony, night walks are more of a humming melody. At night, the beauty of the Yausni unveils and quietly offers unique experiences.

Night walks let us see some insects and frogs that are often harder to spot during the day. On our walk, we see different displays of natural beauty and nocturnal wildlife. But the exploration experience doesn’t end there.

Among the Amazon wildlife, the jaguar plays an important role. It is not only the most fearsome predator, but also the spirit of the jungle, according to Waorani tradition. They are quite calm toward humans and usually hide from tourists during the day.

But not at night.

We can spot some jaguar footprints on the ground during the day. They become even more exciting at night. They become a clue to the presence of jaguars. Lucky visitors get to spot jaguars walking around the jungle at night, and all of them agree on one thing: it is a breathtaking and beautiful experience.

It’s not the most common sighting since, as mentioned above, jaguars are quite shy, but those who have lived i, say the experience is worth the effort.

2. Blowdart practice with a Waorani warrior

One of the most appealing aspects of Wao Kamp is the opportunity to engage with indigenous culture up close. Experiencing the Waorani culture is a delight in itself. Only by looking at these people who have a special connection to their land and territory does it take your breath away.

Wao Kamp works directly with a community of Waorani people, and it offers a more intimate approach. Gaba, an old Waorani warrior (one of the last), has opened his home to be part of the Wao experience. He and his family organize workshops and share their knowledge and traditions.

The cultural experience starts with the usual cultural immersion: traditional cooking, storytelling, and craft-making sessions. These practices reveal generations of knowledge passed down through families. The immersive part is how you make the experience your own, since the community invites you to take part in the rituals. The whole experience is personal and often eye-opening.

But then comes the unique part, and one of the most memorable experiences for all of our visitors. Often led by Gaba, visitors have a moment in the workshop to try the Waorani blowdart.

Some people may think it’s not that hard to handle, but the blowpipe is quite heavy, which makes it difficult to use when inexperienced. Though most visitors fail, everyone agrees that it is one of the most fun parts of the whole cultural experience, and they stay quite impressed by the Waorani’s strength and precision.

Since the Shiripuno River is the gateway and highway into the Safari Campsite, it is also the most prominent natural element visitors can admire.
